Derick brings a wealth of experience across organizational leadership, business development, strategic partnerships, investments, operations, and new venture management. With a proven track record of fostering innovation and nurturing entrepreneurial spirit, he aims to significantly impact the startup ecosystem. Before joining Tech Launch Arizona (TLA), he served for nine years as the Executive Director of Virginia Tech's Apex Center for Entrepreneurs, where he successfully connected tech companies and startups with vital resources and networks, empowering them to thrive.

Derick's leadership and mentorship has been instrumental in guiding numerous startups, helping founders navigate challenges and achieve their milestones. As a seasoned entrepreneur, he has a history of founding and successfully exiting businesses in the software and healthcare industries. Derick holds a bachelor's degree in political science and business management, and a master's degree in industrial systems engineering.
