My professional training is as an optical engineer specializing in optical testing and optical instrument design, I have more than eight years experience designing and developing optical systems. My technical interests include lens design, interferometry, and optical alignment. I was an employee on the technical staff at IBM, Perkin-Elmer, GCA/Tropel, and WYKO.
For seventeen years, I worked in the field of technology transfer and early stage venture development of high technology based firms. I was a Director within the Commercialization Group of Research Corporation Technologies (RCT). In this position, I was responsible for evaluating and commercializing inventions in the fields of medical devices, biotechnology, physics, materials, and instrumentation. I was exposed to a broad range of technologies and markets. In this capacity, I have demonstrated success in licensing patents and starting, early-stage, high tech companies.
In the recent past, I was the Administrative Director of the Center for Integrated Access Networks this is an NSF Enginneering Research Center. As Administrative Director I assisted the Center Director in overall management of the ERC, overseeing the administrative and management functions of the Center including day-to-day management of Center grant totalling $18.5M plus university cost share and industrial sponsors.
Currently, I am a Sr. Licensing Associate and Sector Director for Physical Sciences at the University of Arizona's Office for Technology Transfer. In this roll I provide service to UA faculty to assist in perfecting patent rights, and helping to commercialize university based inventions and technologies.
