James Millerd

Dr. Millerd has held senior technical and management positions at TRW Space and Technology Group (Redondo Beach CA), MetroLaser, Inc. (Irvine CA) and 4D Technology Corporation (Tucson AZ). He co-founded 4D Technology in 2000 and led the company through securing initial venture capital funding, private equity buy-out and eventual acquisition by Nanometrics, Inc. for $40MM.   

Dr. Millerd has a Ph.D. in Optics and Lasers (University of Southern California) specializing in Optical Metrology. He has 17 U.S. Patents and over 100 published research and conference papers, which includes the fundamental intellectual property used by 4D Technology. He has leadership training through the HAAS School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.   

As a commercialization partner James brings expertise in optical technology, IP development and licensing, start-up and strategic business development, executive leadership, and acquisition/exit planning. He enjoys cycling of kinds, hiking, basketball, racquetball, travel and playing guitar.
