Did You Know?
You can increase the impact of your work through inventorship. By reporting the inventions, you have the opportunity to:
- Increase funding for labs, departments and colleges
- Qualify for industry and federal grants, such as SBIR funds
- Make research more attractive for future funding
Note: Most research contracts contain language regarding reporting inventions. TLA can help you understand your requirements.
Put Your Lab Materials to Work
Do you know of research that demanded the development a new kind of material? Do you or your colleagues have something in your lab freezer that might be useful or valuable to other investigators? Do you receive requests for materials that your lab produces, such as:
- Animal models
- Organic materials
- Demonstration samples
Research materials aren’t typically patentable, but they certainly are valuable and can generate revenue.
As a leading research institution and a land-grant university, we are dedicated to making life better for people throughout our communities at all levels – from our cities to our state to our nation. In 2012, the UArizona renewed that commitment when it created Tech Launch Arizona to move the inventions stemming from innovative work out into the marketplace where they are now impacting lives.
All we need to do is ask ourselves the question:
What problem can our work solve?
From there we’ll help with the rest, from documenting and protecting inventions to helping strategize how to get them out into the world.
