Samantha Bankston Bares joined Tech Launch Arizona under the then Office of Technology Transfer in January 2013. She currently serves as Executive Associate for Planning and Project Management, working directly for Vice President Dr. David N. Allen. She is responsible for project management of all TLA activities including managing strategic plan milestones, executive correspondence, Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) requests, event planning, commercialization programs, operations, grant writing, financial reporting and assisting with marketing and communication activities. Samantha leads the National Science Foundation (NSF) Innovation Corps (I-Corps) site designation as grant administrator, facilitating the program management to help prepare scientists and engineers to expand their focus beyond the laboratory and increase the impact of basic research.
Samantha’s experience at the UA spans nine years, including work with the UA Museum of Art and the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. During her undergraduate career, Samantha clerked at a local law firm and served as a retail representative for a national marketing services company. She holds a B.A. in English with minors in both Spanish and American Indian Studies from the University of Arizona, and in 2016, completed her Master of Public Administration (MPA) at the UA. Additionally, she has recently been admitted into the University's Ph.D. in Higher Education program. Samantha currently serves on the Appointed Professionals Advisory Council (APAC) Policy Committee. Samantha serves as Chair of the Website and Communications committee for the UA Events Resources Group (ERG). She is also the Chair of the Outreach & Communications Work Group on the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) serving on the CSW Executive Board. In addition, she served on the Board of the Masters of Public Policy & Administration Students Association (MPPASA) as communications chair, and the UA Cares annual campaign for community giving institution-wide steering committee. Outside of the UA, she participates on the Mayor’s Tucson Healthcare Sector Partnership Innovation subcommittee. In her spare time, Samantha enjoys running, hiking and volunteering at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
