John Zipp

Commercialization Partner
CEO, ZIMA GROUP

John Zipp is an entrepreneur/co-founder of several technology ventures and a senior executive with over 40 years of experience as CEO, interim-CEO, advisory board member, and BOD member serving new company startups and troubled-company restarts. Between 1980 and 1988, Zipp was the co-founder and CEO of two enterprise software ventures, one of which was recognized for its rapid growth and profit by receiving a ranking of #275 on the INC 500 list of fastest-growing privately-held companies. Both companies were rapidly developed and sold as per plan. Prior to 1980, he held executive positions developing software divisions for Boole & Babbage, UCCEL Corporation, and RCA. From 1990 to early 2005, Zipp worked closely with several Silicon Valley venture capital firms to identify and solve the problems plaguing various companies in their respective portfolios. Many of the troubled companies during the “dot com” era were quickly diagnosed as unrecoverable, and Zipp led the operational and legal wind-down process to a soft landing that led to the maximum benefit and minimum liability to employees, creditors, and investors. For the past several years he has been an interim-CEO, and mentored CEOs. Zipp has worked with and mentored company executives in diverse industries, including software, residential construction, cosmetics, medical services, credit union, legal, semiconductor, cable manufacturing, executive search, and others. His BS degree is from the University of Colorado.
